Im nervous about dropping a few hundread bucks on a mill with out a better understanding of what I am doing. We do not do production, i bet you it would cut between 20 and 50 holes a month. If youve got an iphone machinist journeyman app has a code generator too i think.Ive never used either one as I use CAM for all my tool paths.
For NPTs you need to cut the taper either mill it or ream it. I think there are some threadmills that will do it while it cuts the thread but dont quote me on it. Single point threadmills can do more pitches for obvious reasons where as multi teeth are set for one pitch. We bought the thread mill from Carmex and they generated the code for us. Worked great. What is the standard for a right hand thread a left or right hand tool We started with a heft hand tool then switched to a right hand tool. For right hand threads you spiral out of the hole, spiral in for left hand, all climb cutting. Single point mills are cheaper and slower but the variation in threads you can cut is incredible, saved my ass several times. If you have a multi point tool you only need to cut 360 or 720 degrees. But as I dont do many T-Milling ops., it has saved my buying lots of T-mills I wont use so often. I still have to buy NPT mills as my CNC controler doesnt allow taper moves in T-Milling or helical Z taper moves.
